More than 300 days of sunshine, shallow, crystal clear waters and pristine white sandy beaches are just some of the many attractions Cyprus has to offer. Increasingly, people are looking for activity holidays rather than just spending time at the beach. Cyprus offers a whole lot of fun on a budget, including birdwatching, climbing, cycling, hiking, orienteering and mountaineering, and water sports like canoeing and kayaking.
The great thing about Cyprus is that it is a year-round destination, so buying an affordable holiday apartment, townhouse or villa in Cyprus makes sense, if you enjoy any of these activities. The main resorts are Paphos, Nicosia, Larnaca, Aiya Napa and Limassol.
Cyprus is a great place to come all year round for nature walks and birdwatching, but also for wellness related holidays that include Thai massage, holistic treatments and pampering days in one of the island’s many spas.
Aiya Napa lies between Cape Greco and Protaras in the east of Cyprus, about 44 minutes’ drive via the A3 from Larnaca Airport. If you enjoy nature, you’ll find the Cape Greco National Forest Park, which has been a national forest park since 1993, a wonderful place to come on a hot day in summer. Property in Aiya Napa starts at around 70,000 euros for one- and two-bedroom resale apartments.
Larnaca in the south of the island is just an 11 minus drive away from the airport. Larnaca apartments start from as little as 85,000 euros, while a small townhouse starts from around 125,000. The city is a major hub for business and entertainment on the island, but just to the west of the city lies four salt lakes, a major attraction for birdwatchers.
Limassol is approximately 44 minutes’ drive via the A1 from Larnaca Airport. It is home to Athalassa National Forest Park, which includes some 20 km of hiking trails that are suited to different skills levels. Limassol apartments start from around 120,000 euros.
Paphos is located in the southwest of the island, approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes’ drive from Larnaca Airport. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty, more rugged than the more developed east. Attractions include Avaskas Gorge, the island’s most spectacular rock formation. Kato Archaeological Park, Coral Bay and Tombs of the Kings are other Paphos attractions that make a visit to Cyprus unforgettable. Affordable apartments in Paphos start from around 70,000 euros.
Nicosia lies some 52 km to the northwest of Larnaca International Airport. The resort is the island’s capital in terms of restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Property here is less affordable than in other parts of the island, but it is possible to find a modern apartment with two bedrooms for between 125,000 to 150,000 euros.
