España is continuing to avoid any signs of a crisis in the shopping centre sector. On 20 October, the Plaza Río 2 shopping centre will open in Madrid, promoted by the company Sociedad General Inmobiliaria de España (Lgsie) with an investment of €200 million.
The complex will have a surface area of 40,000 m2 and will house up to 160 stores. The centre is located on the banks of the Manzanares River, opposite the Matadero leisure complex. The design has been carried out by the architecture studio Chapman Taylor.
Plaza Río 2 has generated approximately 2,000 jobs during the construction phase and, following its opening, will create 1,800 permanent roles. With this centre, Lgsie now owns eight shopping centres in Spain: Madrid 2 La Vaguada, Plaza Loranca 2, Gran Vía 2, Plaza Norte 2, Gran Plaza 2, La Villa 2 and Plaza Mar 2.
Plaza Río 2, where fashion groups such as Inditex and H&M have already requested stores, will join several other shopping centres that have been opened in Spain in the last year, such as the Nevada shopping centre in Granada and the Fan Mallorca shopping centre in Palma.
