Homes with swimming pools have always been popular, particularly in holiday destinations Spain, despite a golden beach frequently laying just metres away from the front door.
New research from travel agent On the Beach, though, may have found the answer why: 67 per cent of holidaymakers consider themselves confident swimmers, good news for the millions currently planning their summer getaway, but almost a third (31 per cent) won´t swim in the sea.
The survey revealed that almost half (45 per cent) of those that stay well clear of the deep blue say they prefer to swim in their hotel pool, while almost a quarter (23 per cent) say they are scared of swimming in the sea.
It is unsurprising, then, that recent findings from Spanish property portal Kyero.com has suggested that a swimming pool is a huge priority for those looking for a property in Spain, with 70 per cent looking for homes with pools in the Costa Blanca alone.
Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Manager for leading Spanish house builder Taylor Wimpey España, agrees that demand for second homes with both communal pools and direct beach access remains “especially high”.
